[solved] Brake lever doesn't retract. Brake light misinforming other drivers

My 2003 suzuki SV650s has a problem. When I pull the front brake lever the tail light will light up indicating to the driver behind me that I'm braking. However after I'm done braking the lever didn't go all the way to the original position. I tested it in my garage and saw that the brake light is still on even after I release the front brake lever.

This bothers me since I don't want to be a bad motorist. Brakes are functional. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

This use to happen to my 05.

I've since switched master cyclinders to GSXR unit and the problem is gone. I believe I tried adjusting the switch itself so that it would release properly. Loosen the mounting screws for the switch located underneath your master cylinder and push it as far from the lever contact point as you can.

If that doesn't give you enough clearance, you could slightly enlarge the holes on the switch to give you a little more room. It doesn't take much.

I'd also grease your lever's pivot.

Try loosening the bolt that goes through the lever.

Disassemble the lever, clean all the gunk and grit out, put some new grease in, reassemble.

Clean all the gunk out of the switch that you can.
bcj and others: Thanks so much. WD-40 around the assembly works!!! I sprayed little amount near the lever (where you can adjust the brake lever position (1-5); I pulled the lever away from me and sprayed WD-40 around it.

Hopefully this thread will help others who have/will have similar problems.
Clean an grease the pivot bolt. I wouldn't WD-40 it. It'll dry out after a few weeks of use and make it worse.
