I just got an 02 SV650S and the battery is held down with a zip tie. Does anyone have a picture of how the battery should normally sit? I need to know what part it sits in (is it part of the rear fender? the bike has some kind of fender removal kit, maybe that's why the battery is loose).

Is there anywhere to buy this part new?

The black plastic rear fender is also the undertray where the battery sits. The battery slides into an angled compartment and is held in place by a plastic tray that sits above the battery and contains the fuses and sidestand/signal relay. For a fender removal or eliminator, only the rear part of the fender is cut off to mount the signals and plate higher, tucked into the body work. The forward section of the undertray should still be there to accept the battery.

Here's the rear fender. Look at the forward, right end of the fender, that angled sided area is where the battery sits. http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeI.../Model/SV650/GroupID/269407/Group/REAR_FENDER
