I've searched around and am still unclear as to what tanks will fit my '04..
I read a gen 2 tank will fit a gen 1 with some tweaking of the hinge.. Not sure about vice versa.?
So '03 and up will fit or does that stop at a certain year due to changes.?

How about sv1000 tanks.? year range.?

And finally does anyone have a preferrably BLUE tank for sale.? other colors would be considered also..

I'm not sure about the 03 tank or the 1000's, but anything 04+ 650 will fit.

I think the 03 fits, but I'd hate for you to buy one based on my limited knowledge of that model. Hopefully someone who knows beyond a doubt, will chime in.

Ok thanks.. I'm real curious about other models' tanks as well, 'cause it seems gen 2 tanks aren't easy to find on the cheap end..

Check ebay. You have to be patient though. Last one I bid on went for $251. YIKES.

Ebay is about all I've tried so far.. I'm a seller there so I'm on it all the time.. I saw a blue one like I need go for $200 last week and right now there is a black '02 ($35) and a dented blue '06 ($20).. The dented blue '06 has only one dent though, while mine has more dented area then undented, so for 20 bucks I'm considering it.. Being blue would no longer be a plus since it would require body work and has a crease and chipped paint already..
The black '02 would be fine with me but its a gen 1 so (I'm pretty sure) It won't work for me..

I've searched the 'for sale' section on here with no luck.. I was hoping to find out a certain year range of sv1000's would work so I'd have a new search to put into ebay..

I can possibly fix my current tank buts its unlikely to come out acceptable to me.. Its got about 8 creases in it.. Still holds gas fine though and I'll probably sell it cheap on ebay as a 'stunt' tank or something..

My bad.. the '06 with the dent on ebay is from a sv1000.. which is what prompted this thread..

Yeah, 1gen will not fit a 2gen. The frame shape is different, as well as the tank shape. I also think (assume) the length of the tanks are different.

I have an SV 1000 tank on my 650 and I had to cut out a small bit from the bottom of the tank mount (well under where it holds fuel) for it hinge properly. It took less than 10 mins with a dremel cutting wheel and I think I won the tank off eBay for under $20. It's a small amount of work for the good deals you can find.

Well thats great news.. Does it look the same (shape and fit to frame) as the 650 tank.? and what year or years would work from the 1000 (if you know).? thanks Alan..

Appearance, size and shape is identical. All the 650 hardware and fuel pump goes right on it with no modifications.
