picked up 2000 sv a little over a week ago and am trying to get it ready for the upcoming race season (this upcoming saturday).
I propped up the tank to find out what was going on with the carbs and airbox.
i found this

is this a normal mod?
im new to the SV so this is odd to me. I wouldnt think that cutting a hole into the top of the airbox thats already located under the gas tank was a good idea.. but i dont know. Im used to ram air, and fuel injection...

Probably one of the most common mods, right there with aftermarket exhaust. It just lets the air filter pass more air. As long as the bike is jetted correctly and not running to lean (because of the greater airflow), then you should have nothing to worry about.

Hey so I am thinking about doing this to my bike. I have an 07 sv and I am a lil new to the fuel injection system. Will this make my bike run too lean and what would I have to do to get the fuel/air flow right ?

Dude, this is the 1st gen section (99-02). Your '07 has a completely different air filter and is not really subject to the 'snorklectomy'. There are things you can do to mod the 2nd Gen, but anything you do that would affect mixture (ie: too lean) would require a re-map with a Power Commander or something similar to correct the FI mixture.

But it is illegal for racing. Modifying the intake at all is illegal.
you resurrected this 11 year old thread just to say this?
also, totally depends on class. cause superbike you can literally do whatever the fuck you want with breathing.
