10-29-22 Took the bike out to do some errands and see how the new mirrors work...

The mirrors work great! And really like that they do not stick out from the handlebars like the old round mirrors did. I have hit a few things splitting lanes with the round mirrors before, oopsie! :p

10-31-22 Happy Halloween! So, I googled to find out more about the boat tail Harley over the weekend...

Smile Textile Rectangle Font Line

So when I got up I purchased this boat tail for $500 on eBay!

Harley Davidson boat tail. A Bridge Too Far – Boat Tail by Harley-Davidson (amklassiek.nl)

Afterwards, I found this link which was pretty interesting!

So I will be able to ride the Sportster 2 different ways:
Traditional looking with the new drag pipes and as the Boat Tail Sportster with the original exhaust which makes it really rare! The article mentions the exhaust being rarer than the boat tail, well if that exhaust was also an option I think that makes them both really rare!

There was one boat tail for less but the seat was wasted. There is one NOS for $2500?! And the seat has that same rip in the back!
And there was one NOS boat tail with peanut tank for like $3,000! (EDIT)...

Font Rectangle Electronic device Technology Eyewear

Correction, the Boat tail rear and matching peanut tank goes for $7,400! o_O

And I just missed 2 vintage bike swap meets oh well.

Guess time takes a toll on the seat even if it hasn't been used!

The seat that I bought. Has the same rip in the back, and this has been used, not a NOS item.

11-1-22 I went to Sporty Parts to get a new throttle cable...

I see that I have to change the cable end to connect to the carb. Looks like I have to cut the new end off, then get some brass tubing to go over the cable and crimp it!

Then I see that there is a grab rail for the boat tail rear, so I went back to eBay and someone just put one for sale as buy it now for $80 and I bought it!

Later on I saw this, so yea I got a deal on the grab rail! (y)

11-3-22 Oh man I am suffering from eBayitis! :D

The headlight went out, so I have to get a new one. Also on the throttle side the handlebar end plug is missing, so I went to Sporty Parts! They had the plug and ordered the headlight.

11-5-22 I googled about how to repair motorcycle gas tank leak...

I noticed something different on this motorcycle...

Wheel Tire Automotive lighting Automotive tire Vehicle

There is a partial fender on this bike that probably was made to protect the electrical stuff that is in front of the rear tire. All the other boat tail pics I have seen do not have that piece. EDIT: After looking at more boat tail pics I did find a few other bikes that appear to have a rear fender on the front portion, trimming the back portion so the boat tail covers it. I think that's what they did to them!

11-6-22 I stayed away from eBay for a couple of days, but last night I bought a rear fender to modify for the boat tail rear...

The fender will protect the electrical stuff in front of the rear tire. Have to put quick connectors for the green (light) and red (stop) wires, so I can remove the traditional rear and install the boat tail rear!

And went to the local slot car track, and they have a drag strip!

What's cool is, the guys put 1/24th scale model car bodies on the cars! The track is also scaled at 1/24. My friend Rick is sitting at the end of the dragstrip.

Time for me to get my slot car stuff out and my model car stuff out!

Here's one with the grab bar, and they also added turn signals. Back then they didn't make mini-LED turn signals. This bike also has side guard bars.

Also noticed on the kick start models, there is an indent on the exhaust for the kick start arm and pedal.

11-8-22 My friend from down the street came over to look at my slot cars...

He said make the yellow car for the speed track. So the other 5 I will make drag cars using model car bodies on them! And only 1 extra motor worked so can make one more drag car!

I am replacing the throttle cable on the Sportster, and we got some good rain today in SoCal, so I cleaned and waxed the parts.

Tire Wheel Vehicle Motor vehicle Automotive tire

I do not like the license plate bracket position, and there is no adjustment for it. I am going to make a plate that will bolt to the bracket with the turn signals, then have it bent out a bit to hold the license plate away from the tire.
