so i got a front wheel that has one fitted, and it doesnt seem to make things easier.

i normally stand in front of the bike facing the front tyre (or from the back to face the rear) and it's pretty easy to reach in from that "head-on" angle to access a normal valve stem past the rim and rotors. with a 90deg i have to twist my wrist funny to get an air chuck or gauge on.

is there some other 90-degree compatible technique i'm missing?

Maybe you need to rotate the tire so that you don't have to twist your wrist...

ya, a 90° pressure guage and 90° air chuck , 90° valve stems have ha higher likelyhood of damage and failure
