The new counter shaft seal came in today so I installed it. But first I had to get the old one out. I didn't want to pull the engine and split the cases to remove the counter shaft so I engineered a solution. I carefully drilled a few holes through the old seal with a 1/16" drill bit. I then screwed in a couple self tapping screws. I tried the wiggle jiggle method to remove the seal, but got no where. So I grabbed a screw my slip joint pliers and tapped on it with a set of pliers. That got the seal to start to slide out. I moved onto the other screws and worked the seal completely out.

I took a good look at the shaft and block and didn't see anything, but decided to rub some 0000 steel wool over the surface areas anyway. Coated the new seal with a little oil and tapped it into place with a piece of pvc pipe. I forgot to get a picture of the setup while everything was in the bike, but hopefully this will suffice. Just picture the countershaft coming out of the middle of the seal and the pvc pipe as the engine case. Hopefully this will fix the leak. I took a good look at the seal after I had it removed and there was a tiny cut on the inside so I presume I did that when I was installing everything.

My painter called last night and said everything will be ready for pickup today. Can't wait to get off of work today and get some freshly painted parts.

Alrighty...here are the painted parts.

The cream section came out a little whiter than I wanted, but it will work just fine.

I couldn't stand to sit around the house any more so I braved to cold in my garage and put everything together. There are a few tweaks and peaks I need to do, but for the most part she is together. With the LED headlight I put in I couldn't get the wires into the bucket so I need to figure out a solution for that. Right now they are outside of the bucket tucked. There is also a slight gap where the top cover meets the top triple which allows the bottom cover to rotate a bit.

Never mind the license plate. It is off of my CB750. Iwas using it for mock up purposes.

Took it out for the maiden ride today. She rode pretty damn good. Need to do some more tweaking to the carbs, but I kind of expected that. The brakes are great. Really good initial bite. Even the rear brake works well. It was a little weird feeling with the flattish rear tire vice the rounded sport tire I am used to, but nothing crazy. Pretty good acceleration, but 1st gear is really short. I had it up to 70mph and it was still pulling strong. You have to be nice and smooth with the throttle, but I don't expect the wife to be burying it comes out of a turn so that is good. It handled great. Nice and easy to throw around. It actually kind of surprised me how easy it was.

Other than some adjustments to the carbs, control positioning, and shifter positioning I think she might be done.
