Hello fellows,

I have been looking into SV's for a while and finally decided to get one. Found a nice and affordable 2002 model.

I am looking for your help in order to figure out the main issues and things I need to look into while buying one.

Is the 2002 model has immobilizer?
Is there any issues with a carburetor?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Plavaz

The carburetors work fine. I like them because they are simpler than fuel injection. You might have to clean them out, which means removing and disassembling them.
I am not sure what you mean by an immobilizer.
I had a 2000 SV that was a great bike, so if the one you are looking at looks to be in good condition, runs well, then there aren't any major issues with them. They tend to be bullet proof if maintained properly.
The regulator rectifiers do seem to go bad on a fair number of 99-02's, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade that, or at least be aware of the signs that it is starting to fail (hopefully you get some) .
This forum is a great resource, and makes owning and SV a lot better experience as well, especially if you do your own maintenance, or want to learn how to do it.
