06 on an 03 frame

O.K... Here it goes, 03 salvage rebuild frame will be here on monday. What will I be running into roadblock wise with swapping frames?? I have a pretty solid knowledge of motorcycles, although most is on older viragos and such.. and I have a garage and a tool setup that is nothing to sneeze at.. I've noticed traffic on swing arm tools and engine tools. Where to go?? what to do??I have tried to search this in thread search before posting a new one but I am not very forum literate and got lost pretty quick. Also tried to ad my name to group buy but was not only too late but also too noob to post there. ANY help or tips or personal stories would be greatly appreciated! I have an 06 sv650s by the way. Thanks in advance!

just out of curiosity: why are you swapping the frames?
Oh man, theres a long story, basically I was given bike as parts and told to sell .. contacted lien holder to legalize as it was in possesion of a creditor. Their lawyer said they wanted 4 grand to release title. When I told them I didnt have 4 grand and they could come get the parts I had left , they said I could do what I wanted with parts but if I ever wanted to use frame I had to pay them.. I said " so I can scrap your frame and rebuild the bike"?? he said I dont care but we are not giving title up! So here I am.. I have never heard of this happen, and when I was going to sell it for parts, people didnt believe my story, so it sat in my garage til i said hey,I'll just build it and ride it!! Apparently if they made a deal with me on the title, they gave up rights to the debt they had bought for a suzuki card and 7000.00 worth of debt. They had already written off the bike as a loss! So when all is said and done, I'll get a 2006 sv650s for $694.01.. cost of frame with shipping.
By the way, I know my avatar says 05, but I was looking at manufacturers date, found out later that bike is an 06..duh!
I thought the frames where identical aside from the color. I know the subframe on an 03 is different.

I got an 03 frame and motor in my garage so I'd like to know as well. I was just going to get a 04 subframe and solve the problem.
Can't you just use the original sub frame since the numbers the insurance company were talking about are on the headstock of the frame?
You shouldn't have any problem switching everything in the 06 to the 03. You WILL need the Engine tool to move the twins over, but it sounds like you got a GREAT deal.

a few things to think about. The 650N (unfaired) and the 650S (faired) have swingarms of slightly different lengths and the sprocket gearing is slightly different. This could cause problems in chain length if you are swapping from an S frame to an N frame or vise versa.

everything else is entirely swappable between the two bikes.

just be meticulous when switching the parts; take pictures of the parts before so you know where everything goes (even down to wire placement).

GOOD LUCK (and maybe start a thread showing the swap?)

The ENTIRE tail section is different. you are going to need to get a seat, and the plastics to go with the 04+ version.
I only got the main frame.. I am just swapping everything else over..I guess the head stock if thats what its called.. Swing arm and rear portion of frame are all taking the trip to the new bike with me. Only down sidee I can see is if I ever try to sell it, I have to try and explain why I have a bike titled as an 03, but want 06 price... I may have to just sell it for the 03 price..
Quick update, maybe some advice. Called the title bureau about the process, they say no problem but I need to bring reciepts for the parts. If any come up stolen in their database they take them back.. Now I dont care about that cause it isnt stolen, but what if they wont title it without reciepts? I will have reciept for frame, but The majority of the bike is through my buddy, who lives in TURKEY!!!! not the sandwich, the country.. she said I really only need reciepts for the stuff that has a VIN connected to it.. but she deals with cars only and the bike lady was off till tomorrow. What else has a VIN attached to it on a motorcycle?? Kind of a moot point to rebuild it if I cant title it..I'm gonna try to get ahold of my good ole country skippin pal, but what if I cant!?!?! Maybe this deal was to good to be true.
I have firends that deal in this stuff.

The frame will need a title. THe Engine has a VIN that they will check, so you need proof of ownership. from your turkish friend. Bill of Sale is fine make sure it has a price, and date though.

Write on it MISC parts that covers handle bars and the like keep it as bare bones as possible.

Also state that the frame and stuff came with plastics right,

and the engine had the electricals. Right.

Oh and the frame was rolling chassis right...... No engine only. Right.
BTW be very friendly and very patient.
so will it end up with a salvage title?

Salvage Rebuilt
right, yea right it had all that on it.. right.. I gotta get ahold of this guy!

Partially wrong. The Undertray, Rider Seat, and side covers are different. The taillight, pillion, passenger pegs, and painted plastics are the same.
