How does one go about changing the handlebar? To remove the old one I am seeing four bolts...how to get those caps off there?

i believe you just remove the four bolts...im just speaking from what ive seen/heard..i have an "s" with clip ons, but im pretty sure you just remove the four bolts..but then you have to take all your cables and controls off to actually take them off

I too am in the market for different handlebars/clip-ons. I found this video on the convertibars.com site. It shows how to remove the clip-ons. It is demonstrating removal on a GSX-R, but the principle is the same.

Hope this helps...

If you have a naked bike with the motocross style handlebars, try looking at the replacement parts list exploded view of the upper triple tree to see what needs to be loosened or removed.

Assuming you have a naked with handlebars as opposed to clipons.

1. Flat-head screwdriver to pop the caps off.
2. Philips to unscrew the engine kill switch/throttle assembly (only unscrew this one enough to loosen it - you can just slide it off in a bit)
3. Philips to unscrew the headlight/blinker switches assembly - it clamshells apart
4. Unscrew the hex head screws for the mirror mount/brake lever - this clamshells apart
5. loosen the hex head screw on mirror mount/clutch lever - this one pinches so it slides off
6. Remove the handgrip on the clutch side only
7. remove the 4 bolts that hold the bar in place along with the u shaped clamps
8. slide all the components off one side at a time.

typical repair manual fashion - assembly is the reverse of removal

Once you remove the caps, you need to use allen keys to loosen them up. The size you need is in the tool bag. I replaced mine's with SM2 recently. If you are like me(meaning you have a beer while you work on the bike), then it should take you an hour. And that is bsing and realllllly taking your time. Biggest challenge is to remove the grips. If you don't like headaches, I suggest you just get a new set and cut the old ones. I didn't do that, I used alcohol to facilitate. That's because I forgot to order a new set. I had no choice.

As above, with one final tip:
If you want to remove the left handgrip and re-use it, get a long, thin screwdriver and slip it between the grip and the handlebar. Squirt some WD-40 into the gap this creates, and work the screwdriver around the circumference of the handlebar. With a bit of wiggling to work the WD-40 around, the grip will pop right off. Clean thoroughly inside and out with dishwashing detergent and you're ready to re-install the grip on the new bars.
