Mounting top case on rear seat

As requested, here's how I mounted my top case on my rear seat. I bought a used rear seat on eBay so I still have my stock seat to swap to.

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

I would suggest as little foam padding as possible between the top box adaptor plate and the seat. It feels and looks solid, but would make for a more solid mount if there wasn't any padding beneath it:

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

I bolted mine to the passenger grab handle. Works great!

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

That doesn't look to sturdy how does it hold up at freeway speeds?

2Zukis method also allows more room for wearing a backpack, Camelbak, etc. Mine is a bit too close for wearing a backpack with the case mounted. However, it does work as a bit of a back rest to resist the wind when going 80+ MPH all day.

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

Yeah, my intention was two-fold,
1) To be able to quickly remove the ugly'ness of a top box when I wanna look tough-n-fine,
2) And allow me enough room to thread my 26" inseam/leg/foot, up & over, and through the room I left between the box and my seat.

I set the box as far back as it could go to maintain it's mass over as much as the rear axle as possible.... all the while keeping cosmetic appeal in mind. Somebody suggested that I mount a passenger rest on it, but with my little t-rex arms, I'm already leaning forward and reaching for my handlebars even with the 1" risers I put on 'em.

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

Oh, I see you removed the passenger grab handle. I left mine in place and if I moved the top case any further back, the opening mechanism would interfere with the handle.

Re: Mounting top case on rear seat

Yeah..... a hack saw and ten minutes, the passenger grab handle was gone but I retained the ability to lock the seat in place.
