Yet another carbuerator high idle/fuel leak mystery issue

Afternoon everyone, I've got my 2001 650 that I use as a daily, and unfortunately ran into a mystery issue that only seems to get worse by the day.
One day while out riding with a friend, he and I pulled a fairly spirited drag against each other right before getting back to my house. As I pulled into the neighborhood I immediately noticed my idle refused to dip below 3.5k or so. First thing I did was trace back what could be causing the issue, and I noticed the bike was running as if it was still on choke. I figured there must be an issue with the choke at the carb end, and saw the little plastic guide tube was shattered on the front carb. I replaced the guide tube, and rebuilt both chokes on the carbuerator just to be safe. Unfortunately, next time I started the bike there was a much worse problem. Full choke, the bike refused to idle higher than 2600-2700rpm, blowing an unbelievable amount of rich, gasoline smoke out of the exhaust. As soon as I had taken the bike off of choke, the front overflow tube began pouring gasoline out at a very alarming rate. I tapped the float bowl with a ball peen hammer and long screwdriver, but it seemed to do nothing for the large amount of gas coming out of the overflow tube. All the while, gasoline spurted from the brass tubes along the intake end of the front carb.
I'm a little lost for what the problem could be, as the entire carbuerator assembly had been cleaned, balanced, and resealed last December, with daily riding since. Gas hadnt ever sat in the tank as I rode the thing every day, and with both a brand new petcock filter and in-line fuel filter on the fuel line I'm inclined to assume that the float needle isnt stuck in this specific case.
Any tips/advice? All this seems to tie back to me having done a full-throttle run on the bike, but I'm not sure how that would have caused permanent damage.

Re: Yet another carbuerator high idle/fuel leak mystery issue

if fuel is overflowing the float must be stuck open either replace the valve or clean and check and try again.

Guess I should start thinking simpler, despite daily riding and only using 93 octane, I guess I got a bad tank of gas at one point which crudded up the float valve.
Took the float bowl off, sprayed everything down with carb cleaner, put it back together and gee it runs again
Moral of the story: if it's a 1st gen, the problem is always a stuck float
