That much is true.

He did good with Star Trek. Again, his were not be far the worst ones. More towards the better end in my opinion.
I would rather watch 1,3,5,7 & 10 back to back than be forced to watch any of them again.

The first one was essentially him thumbing his nose at the franchise and not so subtlety acknowledging that (by his own admission) he was not a Star Trek fan and that Star Wars was actually the franchise he wanted in on.

Let's be honest, the entire story was right out of Star Wars. From young Annikan Kirk pod racing his Corvette through the corn fields to the evil Romulan Emperor running the entire thing from the comfort of his swivel chair.

And, the second one? Seriously? After spending six months swearing that he wasn't going to remake Kahn, that's exactly what he did. And, it was beyond awful.

I honestly can't think of any of the originals that was worse than his second film. Including 5. Which is really saying something.

I enjoyed the Star Trek reboots and I expect he will do well with Star Wars as well. I think the people that complain are the same people that will complain about anything new because it is not original. Doesn't matter what it is.

And yet I love Star Trek: Continues and Star Trek: New Voyages.

Go figure.

That you haven't seen 1 and 5? Or at least while sober?

Yah the last two could have been better. But Star Trek and Star Wars have done worse.

Star Trek: Continues and Star Trek: New Voyage are a thing? I lost all interest partway through Voyager.

(Neelix must Die is my default setting on that.)

Star Wars, maybe. We will have to agree to disagree on Trek having done worse.

1, while certainly not great, was not as bad as a lot of people made it out to be. It was slow was it's main problem. The story, itself, wasn't all that bad.

5, I would probably agree is the worst of the originals as far as execution. As far as story? It was probably as close a story that might have aired during the original run of the show as you are likely to find. It was poorly executed, but the concept was good.

Abrams Trek 1 was not a Star Trek film. Other than the name of the ship and the names of the characters, there was nothing about it even remotely resembling Trek. The story was straight out of Star Wars and Abrams desire to make Trek a story about destiny rather than human nature.

Other than Spock Prime, the characters barely even resembled the originals. And, McCoy was demoted to little more than glorified extra, rather than one of the major three.

Not to mention his apparent love affair with people dangling by their finger tips. It was fine the first time it happened in the movie. By the, what... third time, I was like, Really? Again?

And, really, what is the point. Once you accept that his entire premise for the film is one of destiny, why bother putting in the cliff hanging.

And Abrams Trek 2 was so bad that I can't even begin to list all the reasons why.

Star Trek: Continues and Star Trek: New Voyages (it has also been called Phase II) are professional, independently created web series.

These are not fan films (although the people doing them are, indeed fans). And, they are not green screened creations. They are both done on full sound stages with sets designed from the original blue prints. Both feature special effects artists that have worked on Paramount produced Trek, whether it be a series or feature film. Both have had professional writers doing some of the story lines. More so New Voyages that brought back the writers from the original, like DC Fontana and David Gerrold.

New Voyages has had George Tekai, Walter Koenig, Denise Crosby and a number of others from the various series.

Previously I would have said that the story lines were better with New Voyages and the actors were better with Continues, but the story lines have really been good with both and seem to get better on Continues with each episode.

There is also Star Trek: Renegades. A project from Tim Russ (Tuvok) featuring a whole host of people from just about all of the Trek series. They have just aired the first episode of it. The story line needs a bit of work, I think

Now, do I think a new, updated version of Trek could be visually appealing like Abrams Trek and still be true to the actual Trek story like Continues or New Voyages? Absolutely.

Abrams simply did not deliver it.

I bet some of you guys still prefer to watch Sanford and Son and Old Westerns, "cause they just don't make 'em like that anymore!"
