All Balls steering stem bearings

2006 sv650s. After putting in the all balls races and bearings, the 2nd spindle nut has only 3-4 threads to bite on to. I took everything out and made sure races were set all the way down and they are fine. It torques fine, so I'm almost positive it's okay, but just wanted to check. Anyone else have this?

Re: All Balls steering stem bearings

I can't speak for the SV but I used an All Balls kit on one of my Hondas and it came with an extra large ring/washer that was not needed.Check on a Partsfiche or contact All Balls.I checked with them and they were very very helpful and excellent Customer service.

Also it can take time for the new set to settle and after around a 150 miles I got a,"Thump" from the front suspension when going over a kerb to my house so had to check and re-tighten the locking ring etc.

We have installed a couple of sets, and on the most recent (son's VFR800) we had to check and re-tighten them a couple of times. It's pretty tough to get them in there (especially the lower one), and even when you think they are 100% seated they may still move slightly.

I don't have any specific experience with the SV though.

Yeh they do settle and need checking.Roller bearings will most likely outlast the bike/s as they have way more surface area on the rollers than ball bearings so they are super smooth and less prone to wear.All-in-All a far superior design IMHO

thanks everyone. i looked at it again last night and i think the lower race is suspect. the turn stop tab on the lower triple is 1/8" lower than the marks on the stem.

On one of the stems I used them on I had to polish/sand the stem with some 500 grit to make it easier get the bearing right down and used some PVC tube from a DIY/Home Depot type store and hammer on top of it to get the bearing down with some engine oil on the stem.

well, the races are as far in as they're going. also checked lower bearing seated on triple stem and gave it a bunch more persuasion. going to go with everything as it is and see how things settle. i've used all balls on all my other bikes and never had any problem seating races, etc.
