To race it or not?

I joined the ranks last week when I purchased a gently wrecked 99 for $400. I've raced with WERA for over 20 years, mostly Vintage but a little modern. My race bikes included an RD400, RZ350, FZR 400 and currently an MZ Skorpion. It's the racing Skorpion that caused me to buy this SV. Last month I raced the Skorpion for the first time at Nelson Ledges and got my ass handed to me by a bunch of kids on R3's and RC390's. Kind of depressing as I'd always done well on my other bikes.

Which brings me to now. This bike will be a fairly easy restoration for what I'm used to. But do I race it or street ride for a bit? For what it's worth, I have a garage full of motorcycles so it's not like this is my only ride. I always hesitated to race an SV but now it kind of sounds like fun. Oh well, I have all winter to decide. First race isn't until mid-February.

My $400 SV...

Re: To race it or not?

Isn't the answer to that question always "RACE!!" ?

Kidding aside it seems like a good choice for a race bike.

Re: To race it or not?

the downside is you'll want to put a decent amount of money into it to race: shock, fork upgrades, probably rearsets, etc
