Looking for an SV- Buy new?

Looking for another SV. I want a twin with good wind resistance/aeros and a sporty ride position for windy days on the highway and Ducati Panigale is out of reach. My first SV was a 2000 S model and it is the only bike I have ever known.

In Canada.

Looking at used first gens, average price for a clean one is $3000 for under 30K mile examples. Tested one, came away unimpressed because of some uncharacteristic roughness/harshness/vibration. Posted a thread in tech to see if i'm just paranoid.

Second gens 04-09 generally sell for 4-4500, with about 20K miles.

Brand new second gens are 5500 but prep and tax makes ~$7000 ish

Should I just get a brand new 2014 or 2015? Warranty, 0 miles and ABS, not to mention fuel injection, no cam chain tensioner issues.

Truthfully $700 is more than I want to spend but I like the idea of not worrying about the used bike lottery. I find the first gens look far nicer than 2nd gens but unless I can find a low mileage, clean example without any issues, I don't see it as very feasible some 15 years later.

Any advice?

if you buy new the value of the bike will drop by at least a thousand as soon as you drive it out of the dealership. i'd advise buying a low miles used bike. if you are not mechanically competent take someone who is with you when you go to view any potential used purchases, checking out a used bike isn't rocket science

I hate Canadians; they have new SV's and stuff.

Re: Looking for an SV- Buy new?

Input from an Ottawan, I bought a 2000 SV650S with 49000 km a year ago and am very pleased with it. If you pop up to Ottawa, you can have a test ride.

Here's 1st Gens from kijiji Ottawa,

three around $2400, one with full luggage.

My other bike is a C10 Concours, and it has better weather protection, but the SV windshield is pretty good at keeping the wind pressure off your chest.

+1 An '08 with suspension mods in place, fender eliminator, frame sliders, etc, could be as little as $4000,
whereas a new one would be $8000+ once you got it dialed in.
