Upgrade from SV650's forks to SV650X's?
Hi everyone. Has anybody already checked which parts you need to change to make ’18 SV650's forks preload adjustable, like the SV650X ones?
I assume that you may need to replace more parts than just the caps of the forks. (Spacer underneath them, different springs?) |

There really isn’t much reason to do that. Preload doesn’t make the springs stiffer or softer, it just changes sag and ride height.
You would be much better off putting good springs in. http://sonicsprings.com/catalog/prel...ch_article.php

You are right, I know you don't change the "K" factor of the spring.
But I have start from somewhere. I was thinking doing both gradually.. |

Cogent Dynamics makes a aftermarket fork cap that allows for preload adjustment. Listen to RichDesmond; he knows what's up. If you change out the fork cap, make sure to put in the right spring too.

Your forks are already preload adjustable. Are you referring to rebound adjustability?

If you do the springs first I'm pretty sure that you will realize that the preload adjustment isn't something that will help you. There are far better places to spend that money.

Thank you for your answers.
What should I look for when I will choosing new springs? In other words, which do you believe is the main weakness of this front suspension? (And yes, I know this is a budget bike after all. I don't expect any kind of tuning miracle!) |

Mushin, unfortunaty I must have bought the last piece of 2018 without preload adjustable caps!
Anyway, I agree I must approach it differently. |

The standard solution is better springs and Race-Tech emulators. You don't have to do them at the same time. You can do springs (with new fork oil) and then add the emulators later.

OKM, listen to Rich. I've done what he's suggesting (Sonic Springs and emulators) and it completely transformed the front end of my bike. (BTW, Rich sells the springs you need....)
