My 50mph electric bike
My other bike, 45mph+ on a electric bicycle during the busiest street. Technically a motorcycle disguised as a bicycle.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Charging my 20v batteries in parallel, 83volts of pure DC power. ![]() ![]() Weighs about 55 lbs without batteries so I can carry it on my car. ![]() Motor requires virtually no maintenance, only have to replace the bearing on the axle every 50,000 miles or so. Its a $2 part. ![]() Last edited by evolutiongts; 07-16-2014 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: My 50mph electric bike
Build details? That thing is pretty slick. With the video sped up I can't tell how fast you're going but I noticed you pedaling from time to time. Going up hills or just feel like moving your legs?

Re: My 50mph electric bike
Video is normal speed, I pedal to put less load on the motor, conserve battery power.
Details: Giant Trance Full Suspension Mountain Bike Shimano 4-Piston Hydraulic Disk Brakes with 203mm disc rotors front and rear Motor is Crystalyte HS3540, direct drive rear hub motor. Batteries are RC Lithium polymer 84volts, controller is set at 50Amp discharge, giving about 3800watts of power under full throttle. |

Re: My 50mph electric bike
What is the range on that battery? At 50 (49.5) mph isn't it legally a moped and need lights, and approval, and stuff? Is it as much stupid fun as it looks? When do you do the dirt(trail) bike version?
And where's the engine noise? (None on the videos. ![]()

Well technically it is a moped but I can pedal with the motor off, it rides and looks like a bicycle. Yes, its stupid fun as it looks, my SV650s just sits in the garage all week. My electric bike is my daily commuter, its fun to pass cars and motorcycles on a electric bicycle. The slick tires I have on are ok for light trails. I'm going to build a dedicated off-roader in the future. Heres my fiancee's 38mph geared electric bike, sounds nice. Out accelerating cars gives me a grin everytime. Re: My 50mph electric bike
Heres the motor I used:
http://www.ebikedeal.com/crystalyte.htm $350 and It already comes laced into a standard 26" wheel for mountain bikes. http://www.lyen.com/ Get the 18fet controller about $200 http://www.ebikes.ca/product-info/gr...e-analyst.html You'll need a display that will tell you battery capacity, voltage, speedo, cruise, throttle tuning, etc. About $150 I chose RC batteries because they are lightweight and powerful. You will need about 6 of these for 70volts, and 8 for 100v, easily over 50mph top speed. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...lipo_pack.html About $400 for batteries. Heres the best lithium battery charger. http://lipoconnectionsolutions.com/i...ger-308Duo.htm About $269 http://lipoconnectionsolutions.com/2...rgers-2462.htm I use these Dell server power supplies for my charger, takes 30 minutes to fully charge my batteries at 40amps. Now there are cheaper parts out there but the ones I've listed are the highest quality. |
