Unless you have play in the bearings, there is no need to replace them. You should however clean and regrease the bearings of the shock linkage. Especially if you're riding in the wet and on salted roads.
Take the shock and rear wheel off and move the swingarm up and down. It should move smoothly and have no play.
I would not bother taking it off and regreasing the bearings unless you change the bearings. You'll need the right tools for swingarm removal as being able to torque it correctly is essential. Don't touch it unless you have to.
