Re: rusty gas tank? not sure what to do

Hi mitsumike,

The first thing to do with this $100 bike is try to get it running (new battery, clean the carbs, fresh gas). That will double your investment right off the bat, haha. You do not...

Re: What does the speedometer resister do and doni need it?

As busdriver said, the resistor pack on the subframe is for the fuel level sensors.

It is okay to remove but then of course the fuel level light will not work.

If the gauge is still on the bike...

Re: Chain stiffening

The chain is toast.

Look at the chain not the valve stem. Mark one spot on the chain and watch as the wheel rotates. You will see one tight spot, one lose spot per chain revolution. Same place...

Re: Cam Swap Timing Question

That is degrees of cam rotation relative to milling the head.

Two degrees crank rotation per one degree for the cam.

One degree of crank rotation would be 0.011".

Re: Cam Swap Timing Question

One degree cam timing change is roughly = pi * cam sprocket dia /360.

If cam sprocket diameter is 2.5" then 1 deg = 0.022".

The angle the cam chain makes with the head has some affect but is...

Re: New to SV's and have a strange situation

Try double check that fuel flows from the petcock if you suck on the vacuum line. Also, make sure the line is connected to the vacuum port at the carb.

The SV gen1 fuel pump is only necessary to...

Re: 2007 SV650S Charging Problem

You have done all the right tests, BigAl.

At this point I would replace the battery. Typical battery life is 5 years so at 4 years it is getting long in the tooth.

Worst case, even if the...

Re: SV650 Geometry fix

Worn tires with lots of highway miles can get squared-off and make the bike feel terrible in turns.

Low tire pressure, especially on the front, can have the same effect.

Re: 1st Gen Running Like Crap...help and a hug please

If the only thing that happened between running and not running was water contamination (and assuming that is now cleared) then the problem may simply be gas fouled plugs.

Try remove the plugs,...

Re: 1st Gen Running Like Crap...help and a hug please

A quick test only need to drain the carburetor bowls. Hold a rag underneath to test for water. Gasoline will run through the rag, water will ball up and be easy to see. If you do see water then go...

Re: 06 sv650 fading spark

The SV ECM is extremely reliable. In ten years here on SV I have only seen a few gen2 ECM failures and all were of the fuel pump control, never the ignition.

That does not mean your ECM is okay...

Re: 1st Gen Running Like Crap...help and a hug please

Check again for water in the carbs and tank might not have gotten it all out.

Re: SFV650 Gauge Swap onto SV1000?

S vs N should be interchangeable (you will need the mounting hardware and covers too) but there are differences from 2003-04 vs 2005+. What year is the replacement gauge and what year is the bike?

Re: Deep water crossing

Submerging a car in lake is different than riding a motorcycle wheel deep in water but I agree, water immersion is different than simple exposure.

And actually, it doesn't much matter how brief...

- Ground to the engine is good. Even...

Woody, buddy, you gotta read. The direct answer to your question is in the above post. The problem is not the ground, more likely a poor plug cap to coil wire connection.

Also, please answer the...

Re: Deep water crossing

Keep in mind the SV650 is designed to run all day long at high speed in driving rain. Wheel bearings are sealed, all important electrical connectors have o-rings and are water tight.

Not a bad...

Re: 06 sv650 fading spark

When checking for spark be sure the plugs are laying on the cylinder heads making electrical contact.

There is no good electrical reason touching the plug electrodes together should improve spark....

Re: SFV650 Gauge Swap onto SV1000?

It is possible but would not be easy.

The hard part would be matching the serial communication line.

Unless the serial communication data and protocol match exactly, the gauge will forever show...
