Re: 2007 sv650s idle problem! Help!

Jeezus H. Keerist! Doesn't anybody on SVRider.com know anything?

This rider's Idle Speed Control valve is stuck open!

I have replaced my own glitchy ISC with the Grunge Ryder Manual Idle Speed...

Re: Adding washers or spacers to increase preload on 2008 SV650S K8

>>Your original post was a question, which has been answered.

Actually, my question was NOT answered, and I have spent several days working out the solution for myself.

There is a whole bunch...

Re: Adding washers or spacers to increase preload on 2008 SV650S K8

If "every suspension-savvy person in the SV world" knows that the stock springs are dual rate, why can't I just google up that information, amigo?

I calculated from experimental measurements that...

Re: Adding washers or spacers to increase preload on 2008 SV650S K8

The SV650S has 4.9 inches of fork stroke, amigo, the only bikes I know that have longer fork strokes are wallowy adventurer tourers.

And the springs in the Gen 2 SV650S are almost five inches...

Re: Adding washers or spacers to increase preload on 2008 SV650S K8

The SV650S came with progressive wound springs, not straight wound springs.

There is plenty of information about straight wound springs out there and so many riders are eager to parrot Paul...

Adding washers or spacers to increase preload on 2008 SV650S K8

Gen 2 faired SV650's seem to have been built with progressive fork springs with an initial rate of about 0.6 kg/mm.

The initial rate is so soft that turning the preload adjuster all the way in...

Re: engine cut out when slowing down / red oil light came on

Suzuki added the Idle Speed Control valve in 2007 to meet air pollution control requirements. The idle speed cannot easily be changed by SV owners who hate the penguins in Antarctica. The Throttle...

Alternate thermostats for SV650?

The OEM thermostat on K3 through K6 models started opening at 190
degrees F and was full open at 212 degrees F.

But for some reason Suzuki changed to a 170 degree F thermostat on the K7 and K8...

Re: Testing the Grunge_Ryder Manual Idle Speed Control Device

The K6 uses a different part number TPS, but it may be sensitive to temperature changes.

Somebody on a Vstrom forum said that the temperature sensitivity of the TPS could be
demonstrated by...

Re: Testing the Grunge_Ryder Manual Idle Speed Control Device

The ISC is supposed to supply equal amounts of air to the TB's, but the firing order of a V-twin may be sucking the plunger over to the front cylinder orifice under closed throttle, or the ISC may...

Re: Testing the Grunge_Ryder Manual Idle Speed Control Device

:vroom:

The SDS freezes the ISC plunger at step 58 so the valve won't move to adjust the idle speed as the mechanic tweaks the two throttle body air screws.

The SDS window does display some...

Re: Testing the Grunge_Ryder Manual Idle Speed Control Device

Testing the Grunge_Ryder Manual Idle Speed Control Device

I explained how I came to build an inexpensive manual idle speed control device in an earlier thread.

Since the stepper motor operated ISC wasn't passing the same amount of air to the front and...

Re: Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

I read everything I could find researching this issue and built a u-tube manometer which I filled with mercury from some mercury switches given to me by the electrician at Griffith Observatory. I...

Re: Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

Today I learned that there were complaints about the idle RPM on DL1000's dropping off and the engines stalling, in traffic so Suzuki has changed the TPS sensors and the STV sensors from 13580-27G20...

Re: Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

Thanks, for that link, the voltage method should be easy, all I have to do is plug my voltmeter into the dealer mode connector.

I have never seen that video and I initially set my TPS using the...

Re: Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

I'm not sure what is causing the problem, it's like I have far too much compression braking.

When I'm riding at 6000 RPM and roll the throttle off and downshift from fourth into second gear to...

Re: Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

I wasn't planning on permanently replacing the ISC with an adjustable air valve, I was just thinking about using it while synching the TB's to temporarily eliminate the ISC's effect on the idle...

Sychronizing throttle bodies on 2008 SV750S

I was reading my typically unreliable Haynes manual and it says that I need to use the Suzuki SDS box to *freeze* the Idle Speed Control valve so it doesn't work against me during adjustment of the...

Re: Testing the O2 sensor on a 2008 SV650S

It's a four wire sensor, two wires for the heater and two wires for the actual sensor.

Re: Testing the O2 sensor on a 2008 SV650S

Thanks for the reply. What kind of multimeter has "oscillator mode"?

I have two used O2 sensors in my junk box, one was from a T-Bird and the other from a Nissan.

They would cause the needle...

Testing the O2 sensor on a 2008 SV650S

Oxygen sensor heater resistance: 6.5 to 9.5 ohms at 23 degrees C.

Re: Front suspension no longer "smooth" after new progressive springs

Changing the springs to progressive type means you have to experiment with the oil level in the forks. I learned this the hard way on my GSXR when I installed Progressive progressive springs that...
