Oscillating Tach
2005 SV 1000S
The tach started oscillating this morning. It moves with engine speed, but oscillates +/- 1,000 rpm. When i got to the highway on ramp and opened the bike up, it accelerated all the way to 8k, then it was like the rev limiter kicked in. Ignition cut out, then came back. It runs great below 8k, just has this whacky tach and a new rev limit. I’ll be checking it over the next couple of days, but would appreciate any input. |
Re: Oscillating Tach
Recommend checking the battery terminals. Sometimes a loose terminal will cause the speedo, tach or sometimes both to "jump".
Hope this helps! |
Re: Oscillating Tach
Well, I checked the battery connections and the wiring connectors that were reachable while I had the seat off and the tank up, but it did not resolve the issue. My multi tester needed new batteries, so once I was able to pick them up, I checked the battery voltage - it's a little of (12.49V), so it looks like a new battery is needed.

Re: Oscillating Tach
12.49V when it's been sitting for at least a couple hours doesn't sound abnormal
