| How to install Sharkskinz Race Body |
|
Date: Friday, November 19, 1999 From: Zoran Vujasinovic I bought the complete Sharkskinz set with brackets and windscreen. Instructions and pictures are included with the kit. This kit is meant for race only and there are things that will not work on a street bike such as the upper fairing bracket. It leaves no room for gauges and then there is the light problem - this is for USA SVX model, I am not sure about Canadian SVS lights. You could always build your own brackets and try that route. For racing the set-up is easy, just follow instructions. Before you start putting the body on the bike put upper and lower together with dzus fasteners. You can use ones that come with kit or use bigger ones like I did. Once you get them together take it apart and start putting it on the bike. I used the upper bracket that came with the kit and it works fine for me because I dont use any gauges except a water temp gauge which mounts on the upper tree. If you want a different bracket you can try BRG racing or Mitch Baghdoian in MI (Maximum Overdrive Racing). The two brackets in the kit mount the upper to the frame and keep the bodywork about one inch away from the frame. I didn't like that, so I made exactly the same bracket but shorter to bring the body closer to frame and instead of rivets I used bolts to bolt them to frame (with loctite). I crashed and the bracket did not bend or damage at all, crash bumpers helped here. For the rest of the body, lower and tail I just followed instructions. Later on I got an aluminum subframe from BRG so I used the mounting point on subframe. Mounting under seat I used SV stock bolts with rubber bumpers. For the windscreen I like plastic bolts and nuts (home depot or auto parts store). Hope this will help. |
