How to remove the original grips without destroying them. Here's
a very easy solution.
- Using
a long, narrow screwdriver blade from the outboard end of the grip,
work as much of a channel as the adhesive will allow. Squirt a little
WD40 into the channel and let it soak for a moment or two.
- Continue
until you can slip the grip off the bar. There should still be enough
adhesive inside the grip to reinstall it later.
- When you're
ready to reinstall the grip, squirt a little aerosol brake cleaner inside
the grip. This will soften the adhesive, but will evaporate quickly
once the grip is back in place.
- Slide
the grip back onto the bar.
- It should
be restuck within 30 minutes.

An easier way to remove grips that using chemical sprays. If you own an air compressor just shoot air underneath the grip and pull and they are off! Repeat the process on putting new grips on. Working as a service tech at a multi-dealership you learn a few things here and there.
