Zuki's 2005 SV650

After seeing some awesome SV projects like, TLR709's naked first gen and nudist's naked 2nd gen, I decided that i wanted to do one. So on August 25 07 I drove down to PA to meet John and Milda (Liutas and Looshia) and buy Milda's 2005 SV650S.

Then it was time to get to work...

Originally it was going to have an undertail exhaust with a higher sub frame. I then decided that i wanted a "race mount" exhaust so i kept the stock 05 sub frame. Once it was torn down it was time to start ordering parts.

I had some issues getting parts so this took longer that i thought to get it done. Once i got the parts it was time to start installing and test fitting them.

Full yosh system...SV headers and mid pipe with GSXR can.

Some body work installed.

Now for the first time since i tore it apart it was ridable. I had to take it for a little spin around the block. Let me tell you that yosh with the baffle removed is Loud.

There were a few more parts to fab up and fit including the headlight and custom fe.

After everything was fitted it was finally ready for paint.

Then the waiting game. Once i got it back from paint i let it sit for a couple more weeks to let the paint cure a little more. Then it was time...

Time to install some logos and decals to give it that finished look.

All that was left now was to install the front fender, headlight and front signals.

There it was. About a year and a half in the making it was done. I still need to add the barend mirrors but thats easy. Its a lot different than i first pictured it but i couldn't be happier with it.

Today i started striping parts off the front end. Its getting a new top triple clamp, new gages, new front brake reservoir and new headlight bulb and running light bulb. I am also relocating the ignition. When i start to make more progress i will post some pics.

Today I had dad take a few picture of the bike before winter storage. The only thing that is left to do is to put on the fork sliders. So as it stands this bike is bascially done and now i can start on the next project

Got some more work done in the last week. I redid the ignition mounts and installed the fork sliders. The ignition mounts are the same shape as before but thicker so they are more solid.

I finally got my BMC filter today. This weekend I will install it along with the SV1000 snorkel (that i already have) and then in the spring it will be ready to be tuned...can't wait!

Not a big update but I got the BMC filter and the SV1K snorkel installed today.

So a little update here:
I pulled out the rear shock and linkage, raised the shock height, painted the linkage pieces semi gloss black, re-greased everything and put it back together.

I just ordered a set of michelin power pure's from pete's superbike. Early b-day present from mom and dad...Awesome!

Next on the list I need a new battery so I am going to try a ballistic battery. It should drop about 6 lbs so I figure I may as well give it a try.

Update time.
So the pilot pure's are on the bike. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet so I can't comment on them yet.
Today my new battery showed up. Its my bday present from my girl.

So the plan...
1. Install the new battery
2. Do the TPS adjustment (don't know why I havent done this yet)
3. Get the bike tuned on a dyno with a yosh box. I am not doing this for huge power gain but just so the bike is running the best it can. It's got a full yosh system with a BMC filter and a SV1K snorkel so I figure its probably a good idea.

I will update when thats all done.

As promised here is the update...

This bike has the following performance mods and other little adjustments...

Full Yoshimura Exhaust (SV headers with gsxr can, baffel installed)
BMC air filter
SV1K snorkel
Steve's aTRE
TPS adjustment

Since I am running a full exhaust with the larger intake and bmc filter, I decided to have the bike tuned with a Yosh box. Today Don at Stay Tuned Systems did just that. He also let me help out and be in the dyno room while he was doing the dyno runs. He also happen to has his SV track bike in a shed lol great guy to deal with

Anyway without futher a do here is the dyno chart. The red lines are what we started with (all parts already installed) and the blue lines are what we ended up with.

So after tuning I gained about 2.5 ftlbs torque at just over 7000 RPM and I gain about 3 hp just under 9000 RPM. Overall I am please with what I got out of this. Looks like I have about 75 hp and about 49 ftlbs of torque. I wasn't looking for massive gains, I just wanted the bike to be running the best it can.

The bike feels great right now. I love this bike!!!

There probably wont be another update for a while. This bike is ALMOST done. I know there never done but I want to start saving for a new bike to ADD to the family...think Husky 510SMR

Update time again....

I swaped out the silver Woodcraft rearsets for a set of black Vortex adjustable rearsets. For now they are mounted in the middle position. Once I am riding the bike again I will move them around to see what feels best. Tomorrow I am going to remove the rear MC and paint it black.

In other news I am still having an issue with a constant draw on the battery. If the bike sits for a week it fires up no problem but if it sits for 2-3 weeks the battery is dead. I know the simple soloution is to just ride it more but I need to figure this out. I believe that it is something to do with the power supply for the gauges. My uncle Eric (who is an electrician and rides a KTM 640 adventure) is going to give me a hand in the next couple weeks to see if we can get this sorted out.
