????? 1st Gen Radiator on a 2nd Gen ?????

I'm sorry if someone has posted this question in the past but my eyes have crossed for the last time tonight using the search function.

What are your opinions about using a 1st gen radiator on a 2nd gen SV?

Can it be done?

Any reasons not to?

I am curious for aesthetic reasons mainly. I just think the 2nd gen radiator sticks out too far.

We did it when we switched to racing 2nd gens, thought the 2nd gen rad was prone to crash damage. Had to make a small bracket out of 1/8" aluminum strap to get the upper mount to work on at least one side, maybe both?? Might have had to trim a hose too. Been a while, don't remember the details. Main thing is that it's not too hard, just hold the first gen rad up in place and it'll be pretty obvious.

Rich, thank you for the input. I figured that it wasn't too difficult, but I wanted to know of others experience before I spent the money on the project.

If I were putting a different radiator setup on a custom bike, it'd be the biggest sexiest 'motogpesque' silver alloy rad I could fit... and I'd put a smaller one down the bottom, joined by hoses... something like:

Cause that's dead sexy that is

I know it's a little off topic, but you mentioned 'aesthetic reasons' so I thought I'd add my 2 cents on what'd be the best looking

Well, I think you'd pull it off for under $500USD if you could find the right company to work with. What you want is a shop that deals with custom intercoolers for ricers and their turbo cars... generally those places also do alloy radiators... some custom tanks, some cooling rows, a little alloy welding and voila!

There's a company that makes sweet looking all aluminum rads for sv's for racing.
google them, they are about $500
