I just updated the first page, anyone else care to offer suggestions? There will be a lot of new riders hitting the pavement soon enough.

Thumbs up Re: The 'New Motorcyclist' list of tools, gear, tricks to get started....

I said it before and Ill say it again, you should have a summer of dirt biking before even thinking of riding on the street. I am serious about that. You can read all the books, watch videos, intellectualize riding as much as possible, but you gotta have the feel for the vehicle and what it will do in adverse situations. Otherwise you are riding a 50/50 proposition. Perfect pavement no obstacles and smooth sailing, or more likely broken pavement, animals, debris, idiot drivers and getting forced off the road into the grass gravel median etc...and not knowing how it will feel nor how to react. Learn in the dirt. that is my bottom line advice. (For all the tools being recommended,I would add a set of Star drivers- BMWs arent the most mechanic friendly vehicles, remember they want you to bring it back to them so you can spend hours in the boutique buying motrrad accessories and gear.) Lucky for this guy he has V9 as a mentor.

+1

I agree with Morph here. Dirt riding experience should be mandatory for street riders.

For this reason, I have repeatedly promoted American SuperCamp as one of the most useful foundations a street rider can have.

It is very handy to have a pickup truck, or a friend with a pickup truck. Doesn't have to be expensive. My friend's truck is worth less than my torque wrench.
