How To: Automatic Timing Retard Eliminator (aTRE)

Using the basic idea from SV650.org TRE mod, you can create a smart TRE. This one electronically switches off in neutral to make cold starts not a problem as with just a resistor eliminating the circuit. (You may experience the neutral light being on very dim even when not in neutral, it is usually only noticeable at night. Not bright enough to see in daylight. This is normal to this circuit.)

Installation of the single resistor from SV650.org as reference for installation:

and this image to create the electronic switch circuit:

Re: How To: Automatic Timing Retard Eliminator (aTRE)

Awesome!! I was going to try to figure this out on my own, but this is much easier. Thanks so much!

One question: my electronic engineer friend is going to be helping me do this. He wanted to know the amperage or wattage needed for the resistors or something. Any thoughts?

Thx,
D

Re: How To: Automatic Timing Retard Eliminator (aTRE)

Sorry for the double-post. We got it all figured out. The circuit works perfectly! Thanks a lot for sharing the specs. I was worried I'd have to figure it out on my own.

BTW, I like the way you used the neutral light to detect neutral instead of the gear indicator. Slick solution to the problem.

I wish I had pics of our TRE, it looked pretty pro when we were done with it.

yeah daleo, you are using the neutral light to determine when to turn the circuit off.

Re: How To: Automatic Timing Retard Eliminator (aTRE)

This is for the Gen2 SV650 (03+). The TRE mod for Gen1 is slightly different so I don't know if the aTRE will work. I'm shure it could be made to work but figuring out the wiring would be the trick.

I have not looked into doing a TRE on the SV1000. If the basic TRE mod works the same as the basic TRE for the gen2 650, then it should work fine.
