Ignition Switch Wiring

I have an 06 650S and I'm trying to figure out the ignition switch wiring. I tried to take it off and use a meter but one of the torx heads is stripped, errrr. The wiring schematic was not much help to me either. Anway there are 4 wires leading to the switch, B/R, O, O/R and Br. I need to know which one of these is hot ONLY when the ignition is turned to ON. Thanks in advance

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring

Sorry, I tried looking into the downloadable service manual, and there are no wiring diagrams - on that note, can somebody post up the US-spec wiring diagrams for us

But, there is some info in there as far as the kill switch...

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring

What are you trying to power? If it is low current draw, you can wire the hot straight to the battery (fused, of course) and the ground to the side stand switch (Green). You could also tap into the headlight circuit. As far as I can tell, red is the input for the ignition switch and orange is output for the starter relay, coils and ECM.

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring

I'm posting in this dead thread to for future reference for others. gearman is wrong. The red wire is not the only hot wire. It is the constant + for the ignition. I am still searching to find which wire is given power only after the key is turned to the "on" position.

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring

You have a 1gen not a 2nd gen so wiring is probably different. According to the wiring diagram for the 1gen, there should be 6 wires to the ignition switch. R is power from the main fuse at the relay. Gr appears to power the gauge illumination lamps which would only be on with the key, as well as the horn and maybe rear brake switch. Br powers the license plate lamp, position lamp for S models and the taillight which would go on with the key set to Park. O/R goes to the ignitor. B/W is ground, which leaves O which at least seems to go to the dimmer switch.

If you are looking for power with the key in the On position, I would test the Gr wire and then maybe the O wire.
