1/4 mile and 0-60 times

I recently bought a 2006 sv650s and installed a Veypor performance gauge. The Veypor gave me a way to do some 1/4 mile runs and 0-60 runs and I have no idea if they are slow or fast for a stock bike, so any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated since I am interested in the racing side of sportbikes. My best 1/4 mile run was 11.73 seconds and my best 0-60 time was 3.89 seconds, plus my top speed so far is 137mph. Do I need lots and lots of practice, or are those times decent for a stock bike

Re: 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

I'd say it needs to be calibrated. A stock SV650 will not do 137mph. The 1/4 mile time is faster than what CW has reported for the 2nd gens. The first gen in a '99 write up was measured at around 11.89/112mph and 3.7 0-60.

Re: 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

Any other opinions on top speed or is Nimbus right The Veypor and the regular speedometer both said 137mph, and on the run before it, I got upto 133mph according to the gauges, so is there a problem with the bike or are the 2006's the fastest stock SV650's made??

The Veypor might need some minor adjusting to make the 1/4 and 0-60 times more accurate.

If 0-60 times are off, then everything is

Re: 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

I tried doing some online searches to check the numbers and it seems my 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are average. I was guessing that the Veypor might need to be cal'd but it should be good. The problem is that I couldn't find anything on the top speed for a SV650S newer then 2003. The fastest was one site that said the 2003 has a top speed of 133.9mph. So that still leaves the question of what the top speed is for a SV650S newer then 2003.

Re: 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

If your Veypor is pulling info from the SV's speedo, then all but the 0-60 are going to be off by a bit. At best, the speedos are off by 5-10% at higher speeds. An indicated 139 would more likely be sub 130.

This is not just an SV thing, almost every speedometer on every bike is less than accurate. The reason your 0-60 times may be right is the speedos are usually calibrated to be accurate around 55-65.

See if you can get your hands on a GPS unit to check your speedo. All my bikes are off to some degree. The wife's SV is off about 3-4 MPH at 60 MPH. The GPS works best (most accurate)when cruising at a steady speed. It will vary quite a bit with the speedo when accelerating quickly. Nice thing is that on mine you can store your top speed so if you are doing a speed test on a controlled course, ridden by a professional (wink, wink) type thing you don;t have to worry about watching the unit for top speed. Again I am not condoning this type of behavior but the unit is capable of it.

Re: 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

Thanks big time for the information Honda Fan and eeeeek. Since this is my first streetbike, I didn't know that speedometers are less accurate the faster you go with a sportbike. Everything makes sense now since my 0-60 time was the closest to normal but my top speed was high for this bike. I was starting to think there might be a problem with the bike. Thanks again.
