Loss of accel at highway speeds

Usually when cruising at highway speed I would feel the bike losing power. The rpms stay steady though. It picks up again when I open the throttle. There were a few instances when I accelerated to pass, the bike seem to "sputter" and eventually respond (after giving her a nasty look or stroking the tank gently while whispering sweet nothings).

The problem was intermittent but now the problem seems to become more common. What are the likely causes of this?

Spark plugs, dirty air filter, iffy coil, wire lead, cap and even a CDI ignitor box showing signs of saying good bye.

Re: Loss of accel at highway speeds

also check the sound deadening foam on the underside of the fuel tank, if you can pull it away at all, the airbox inlet is getting restricted when the vacuum is enuf to pull it away from the tank

Try some Sea Foam if all others sys check out. Drain tank completely make sure no H2O, fuel filter clog will do those nasty kinds of things.

Bingo! There was actually a hole in the foam from constantly being sucked in the air intake. That was a quick fix to a pretty scary problem. Thanks RandyO!
