This is what I have. Packs a lot of punch. Fun as $hit to shoot but sadly I haven't fired it in a few years. Probably a bit much too much gun for kids, unless your idea of teaching them to respect a gun is having it hit them in the face

Re: Shotgun Suggestions?

imho, a 12ga pump is the first weapon you should have in your arsenal

when my son was 11 years old, he wanted a .22 for x-mas, but I knew better, he'd be out in the back yard plinking, do I bought him a 12ga pump Winchester, don't recall the model, came with a slug barrel and an interchangable choke barrel, 5 round mag + 1 in chamber and a bird plug

that cost him a little more to shoot and I knew when he was using it

I do like 20ga take downs for hunting partridge, woodcock, rabbit a lot lighter and quicker to aim, and don't blow half the meat away, ducks & geese are more open, further away, 12ga works better

May look into a Cali legal ar15 also. Sure it has a bullet clip and 10 rounds but still...
Cali legal AR15's done have a removable clip, you have to remove the rear pin and fold the upper forward to load them. Still a fun rifle either way .

Agreed. I've been using my grandfathers 45 year old 20ga bird gun for pheasant, chucker, and rabbit out here since I moved and am a big fan of it. I've taken as much meat home as my buddies with some nice 12ga guns (all side by side or autos, I have the only pump gun in the group) and carry less weight in both gun and ammo while in the field.

I'm still looking to replace the 12 that I had for a few years. I probably will go with an 870 or 500 with a couple of barrels when I finally get around to pulling the trigger.

Re: Shotgun Suggestions?

This is an interesting gun, though I don't know the Cali laws at all. It's a pistol size shotgun that loads .410 shells, and .45 ACP/.45 Colt rounds for the range!

Re: Shotgun Suggestions?

They're more gimmick than practical if you are referring to the shotshell loading as opposed to the actual pistol cartridges. ^

my dad had a 16ga, nice "in between " shotgun back in the '60s but now ammo is not anywhere near as common as 20 or 12

My dad still has a 16ga. Even odder than the gauge is that it's a bolt-action shotgun.

My grandpa had a double barrel 10ga. After seeing my dad fire it, and taking a few stutter-steps backwards, I opted not to (I was about 12).

WTF is a "ball point hammer?" Is that something with which you can pound nails and sign checks?
