I highly respect constructive criticism, compliments, recommendations, and suggestions. Please be sure to stop by my comment thread or PM me.

The story starts back in the summer of 2007. I walked into the dealer wanting a GSX-R 600/750 however, my credit, would not allow it since I was only 19 years old. I knew the dealer pretty well since I was in the shop every weekend end gawking and sitting on my favorites motorcycles. He cut me a deal on a 2006 SV650n and sure enough I was riding out the door.

First day home.

I didn't know much of the SV line-up, at the time, but I fell in love with it. I started doing some general knowledge based research about the SV and was soon introduced to their potential and modding of course. Not long after I started buying parts.

The first mod build list:
Yoshimura RS3 carbon slip-on
Woodcraft Clipons
Woodcraft Framesliders
Aztec8 dual 4" headlights
PIAA GTX bulbs
Suzuki rear seat cowl
Shock Racing LED turn signals
Targa fender eliminator
Progrip EVO725 grips
Powder coated OEM levers

After a few years of being overseas and deployed I completed my active duty in October of '11. Attending college full time and pursuing my law enforcement career has given me a lot of downtime, so I decided to pull my SV out of storage and bring her back to life. This past weekend I worked for 3 days on various things to get it up and running to bring it home and put it in my garage.

I replaced the chain with an OEM replacement 525 DID chain.
Slapped on some Pilot Powers.
Filled 'er up with new fluids. Luckily the tank wasn't rusted on the inside since I had to empty it completely to ship it. Gov't shipping policy.

Excuse the picture quality. It was midnight, cold, and in my storage connex. 8)

Got my '06 GSX-R 600 rear shock in and installed that.

I replaced the grips with ProGrip Lock-on 700, mirrors with CRG blindsights, and I am currently replacing the gauge with Trail Tech Vapor.

Image

Here's a little fab mock up work I've been doing on the gauge. I'm going to be using aluminum arms later on. I'm just getting measurements and generalization.

Image

I also replaced the turn signals to smoked arrow LEDs with a rubber flexible stalk.

I am still waiting on my ASV levers and LSL fork clamps (so I can replace the aztex8 clamps) to come in.

Just finished up the mounting for the Vapor gauge.

I also called up Trail Tech for directions on changing my ODO reading. Now it shows correct mileage. Got the speedometer hooked up, tire size computed, and is spot on. For anyone else too lazy and not wanting to do the math or the searching, 120/60/17R Michelin Pilot Power size input for the vapor is "1824". What I did was took the non-in-use and in-use sizes provided by the specs from Michelin and used the mean, 581mm, multiplied it by 3.14 which equals 1824.34. I just rounded down to 1824. Very accurate readings. Now I just have to wire in the dash lights and idiot-fuel light and fix the rpm sensor. For some reason it's not doing so well.

I forgot that I ordered a new rear brake light switch.. The OEM one crapped out (I don't remember how) and the second spring style switch was just poor quality from a local motorcycle shop that only lasted a year or so. I went with a Vortex RS100 brake switch not knowing it was hydraulic but I am glad I accidentally did. It's so much better than the OEM switch.

If you need help installing this or whatever I did a write-up about it here.

I'll update again after I'm done wiring my Vapor gauge. I'll be posting a walk through with that as well.

Well since it's rainy in Sunny western Washington I had time to finish up my Vapor gauge and replace the brake fluid.

This is how I have my Vapor wired up using TT's harness:
(Thanks to dubtecv2 and intra2ner, the dashboard lights are working)
Black to Black/White (common ground)
Blue to Black (left signal)
Light green to Light Green (right signal)
Green to Orange/Green (common power)
Light blue to Green/Orange (Oil Press.) [incandescent bulb]
Orange to red/black (low fuel) [incandescent bulb]
The negative (black) wire from the vapor tach sensor is spliced into the spade connector plug on the negative (black) wire of the rear coil. The positive (red) is ran back to the battery for common power. PDX_piggy has his ('07) negative (black) sensor wire spliced into the negative of the front coil and the positive grounded to the frame, and we are both seeing accurate results. I might switch it to his config to see which is more accurate I doubt there is much difference. I have the temp, speedometer, and tire size dialed spot on also.

For reference -->
Harness wire color identification:
Black/White - Common ground
Black - Left Signals
Light Green - Right Signals
Orange/Green - Common Power
Green/Orange - Oil Pressure sensor light
Yellow - High Beam indicator light
Blue/Black - Neutral indicator Light
Red/Black - Fuel Indicator light

**2Gen SV's cannot wire both turn signals to a "double signal" light on the dashboard. You must wire them individually left and right.**
**If you want to use the neutral light, you will have to either rig up a relay with the LED or use the incandescent bulb. I left mine out because I'm getting a Koso gear indicator.**

So I got bored with the way my ignition was mounted.. So I spent 5-6 hours relocating my ignition onto my frame. One of the hardest yet worthwhile mods I've done. I'm quite pleased with it.

I'm still waiting on a couple shipments of parts to come in.
SVracingparts exhaust hanger
Quick Release Cotter Pin Set
Motion Pro sv650s "street-fighter" clutch cable (PN 04-0270)
LSL headlight fork clamps
And still my ASV levers. :magpie:

Well I broke down and ordered an SVS throttle cable, throttle housing, right control housing and an '09 GSXR750 front master cylinder (I will be selling my OEM stuff that is being replaced).

Until my growing list of parts come in here are some teaser pictures of my bike as of today:

I'm not really sure if I like the mounting for the vapor yet. I might put it back where it was even if there will be an empty spot where my ignition was and I'm sure it'll be better when I upgrade to a gsx-r front end.

Got my LSL headlight brackets in today. Holy moly these things are beefy. 500% better than the azte8 low-grade bracket that comes with the lights.

Image

Unfortunately there is not a hole to mount turn signals into so I am having to devise a plan to remount them somewhere. I've got a few ideas so keep a look out for that update.

I've got the whole front-end torn down since this week I should receive all my front-end parts. At least I got to go on a 3 hour ride today with dry roads. 8)

Updated parts-on-the-way list:
Pit-Bull wheel spacer/speedometer eliminator
09 GSXR750 clutch perch
09 GSXR750 master cylinder/perch
SV650S throttle cable & housing
SV650S right control switch housing
Motion Pro SV650S street fighter clutch cable
SVracingparts exhaust bracket/hanger
mrk66 QRTP kit
ASV levers

I sware I'm done spending money for the time being! Haha, until I do my full GSXR front end swap. :D

I rewired my Vapor tach into the OEM tach sensor wire. Works pretty good compared to the Vapor sensor method by tapping into the coil. I used the male side of the Vapor tach wire and pulled out the plugs. I replaced the positive red wire with the brown/black wire from the harness. I used the negative black in the blug and grounded it even though it didn't seem to make a difference if I did or not. It doesn't register rpms when idling but it's really responsive when giving throttle. I had to set my ppr to 2 also for it to be most accurate. We'll give this set up a go out on the street when I get my parts in. Until then my projects consist of little odds and ends.

So I got in about half the stuff I ordered.

Here's some pics of the progress. I got extremely annoyed with the way the vapor gauge was mounted. So the Dremel made an appearance. I'm quite sure I gained 250 skill points in "Dremeling" (haha geekin'). I am loving the Spiegler headlight fork clamps. I didn't get a good pic of them but they bring the lights closer in. They are solid as a rock too.

Image

I really like the way the cotter pin release kit looks on there. It's so much easier than having the oem bolts in there!
Image

Don't mind the front brake line hanging out and the random clutch lever with writing on it. I was testing my clutch tension and it's not staying in there for long. With the new headlight brackets I had to relocate my front turn sigs because its way too nice to drill holes into.

My GSXR master cylinder will be in tomorrow. I'm just waiting on my Pitbull front wheel spacer, SVracingparts exhaust bracket and ASV levers. They should all be here sometime this week.

Coming soon

ASV shorty levers

Finally got my ASV levers and front wheel spacer in and installed. The front end is pretty much done for the time being until funds allow for the compete GSXR swap and SS lines.

I do still have some things coming in:
R6 throttle tube and grips
A new MC bleeder screw
Exhaust bracket

And I'm actively brainstorming paint options.

I'll get some pictures up when the weather is actually well enough to ride.

update:
Steve's aTRE just came in, but havn't had a chance to install it. I will be doing so tomorrow. Thanks Steve!

Finally some time to do a quick update..

I ended up replaced the grips and throttle tube from the progrip setup to the R6 grips and throttle tube. I like the feel and response a lot more, and it was ~$18 compared to $50. I don't know why I didn't just go with the R6's in the first place. Oh well you live and you learn.

+ I like the thickness of the grips. They are definitely beefier.
+ Throttle tube dropped right into 2g svs throttle housing. I've read about the WOT issue and having to cut the ear on the tube. I didn't bother (yet) with this because it was only about 1/8" left to open. Right now I can't afford a speeding ticket, so I'm not stressed about WOT.

+ Smooth and easy to install. Hairsprayed the left grip and 10 min later I rode 50+miles home. It got stickier as I road and when I got home it was firm in place.
+ I like the deep black look of the rubber apposed to the dark/light gray other grips end up being. It matches the other true black pieces better.
+ I found less fatigue in my hands and wrists with the R6 grips on the way home than I did with any progrips thus far. Maybe the thickness of the compound?
+ Throttle snaps back like butter with the R6 throttle tube. The Progrip tube was always binding and sticking open somewhere which cause a lot of unnecessary Frankensteining (cutting/grinding to fit)
+ I haven't found anything wrong with these yet. Much happier with the R6 ensemble.

Oh I forgot. I got my svracingparts exhaust bracket in also. Good stuff. I had to modify my exhaust clamp from my RS3 to fit. Who knows why though... I got it to work. Nuff said.

Unfortunately funding is being put on hold for a bit.. But for the time being she's done. Possible for the season until winter hits again. I'll post a post-op picture soon.

Things on the list-to-do:
GSX-R750 front end swap w/ CF fender + fork rebuild + fork sliders
GSX-R600/750 rear wheel
Koso gear indicator
Koso gauge (maybe)
Spiegler SS lines
Better rotors
LSL urban headlight + HID kit
Rizoma track-77 turn sigs
Rizoma brake reservoirs
Velocity Stacks
PCI
Cam Shaft upgrade
Full exhaust
Rear sets
Belly pan
CF Rear Hugger
DID Gold chain and performance sprockets
CF fuel tank
BCM filter (maybe)
Motosliders + spool sliders kit
New Paint and PC a bunch of parts.

Good quality pics coming soon

Well it's been awhile since I've updated this. But recently the new D.I.D chain I got was apparently no good. I always took care and cleaned and lubed 'er up consistently. Well I rode for 200+ miles and noticed the Dreaded Red Dust and my chain had "stretched" about 5" without the adjuster plates and axle moving. Looked it up and that meant the clay filament in the o-rings dried up and was causing it to powder. Long story short my chain was starting to run on no lube and there's no fixing that. It was a budget chain that only cost $50 which is not a good idea whoever makes it. Rack up another lesson learned. :)

So I bought an RK 525GXW heavy duty gold chain.
