acceleration/bogging issue?

Yesterday i rode home in the rain and it seemed to run fine, but this morning i ride it to work and it boggs down when i give it gas. It seems to idle fine, and does fine when i've got the enrichment lever on. Also, after trying to get it to rev up it will eventually quit bogging and as long as i keep giving it gas then it doesn't bog, but when i stop and take off again it starts all over again.

I took my carbs off today to see if the screen where the needle sits in the carb was clogged and neither were. I have had issues with rust, but i thought it was all finally cleared up.

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated

Check the drain on the front cylinder for the spark plug well. If it's clogged, water may have collected in the well. Pull the cap off as well and inspect. You can use some dielectric grease inside the cap.

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

cap? like for the plug wire? if so, there wasn't any moisture in the cap for the plug and the well did have some crust/mud/something and i cleaned that out. still not running right though.

what's the chance of getting water in my tank? i've never had an issue with it before... but we did have a really hard rain on monday. I checked the three plugs on the right hand side of the frame and there wasn't any moisture in any of them either.

i don't think it makes a difference, but i replaced one of my breather hoses with a generic hose that fit. it doesn't appear to be collapsing, and it's been a week or so since i've done that anyway and it ran fine prior to the rain so i'm assuming it's from the rain...

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

You could have water in the tank. Did you remove the front spark plug to inspect its condition? You could siphon out some fuel and look for water or just add some Heet to the tank with fresh gas and/or drain the float bowls as well.

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

yeah, I'm was actually thinking about dumping some heet in the tank and some seafoam and taking it for a ride until it decides to clear itself up, but with my luck it wouldn't be the problem....

btw, thanks for your help

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

I cleaned the plugs, the rear one was nasty looking... still nothing. replaced a fuel line that appeared like it was getting kinked & added heet and it's running fine now. now sure which it was that fixed it, does anyone know how to test and see if water is getting in the tank?

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

There is a drain under the cap that you could check. Also check the gasket under the screwed on ring for any signs of deterioration. A kinked fuel line could have caused fuel starvation that wouldn't be noticeable at idle.

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

Like already mentioned, could be some water in the fuel. A cheap and safe thing you could try would be to pick up a can of Sea Foam (at Wal Mart, etc.) and add some to your gas.

Re: acceleration/bogging issue?

Nevermind, I see you already mentioned trying Sea Foam.

One thing I did do recently on another bike that was having sputtering problems was to drain the tank, run the bike until it ran out, then poured straight Sea Foam into the tank and cranked it a few times to get it down into the carbs then let it sit overnight. In the morning I put fresh gas in and rode it hard. I had a separate problem with my fuel/air mixture being off though so I can't say this process really did anything. It didn't hurt anyway. The bike's running better than ever now.
