Robers' rebuilt sv

well after much reading yall's entries, i have decided to enter the ring and created my own build log

that was how it all started, picked it up here in Houston for 2000 dollars, has 5000 miles on it.

almost immediatly we ripped into it and started to work on getting it into running order.

this was the full body kit that i managed to get with it as well for free :-), it is the ATX kit from airtech

we ended up 5 months later with a awesome bike, really torque and fun to ride, started to ride it to work on a daily basis, then i went to south africa for a month and when i get back needed to goto work and check things, so i did, was getting ready to leave and BAMMMMMM get hit by a minivan

ended up in hospital, not cool...... surgery is never fun...

Re: Robers' rebuilt sv

so after i recover and get in the process of repairing all the problems that were screwed

the only thing that kept us partially sain.....

well 8 months later, we get the forks straight, wheels straight and new pegs and at the same time managed to get a new integrated tail light into the rear, not a lot of mods done to it, but enough to get it rideable.
HUGS thank to Harold for alllll of his help with that.

Re: Robers' rebuilt sv

well over the past few days, after looking at 01forfun and many others, went on a spending spree and spent some serious money and got the following
1) www.kgcycles.com full fairing and new fender
2) fleebay under tail fairing
3) fleebay HID lights
4) fleebay integrated turn signal mirrors

today i worked on getting the fairings together and putting it all together
Installed the HID's and they work great now have a "off" switch on my lights, plan to upgrade them in the future to dual hi/low but for right now im kinda happy with them they way they are.
also managed to get the top installed, but didn't get to finish the bottoms.
also didn't manage to install the windshield, as we were running into issues with it. will get some more stuff on that one taken care of hopefully next weekend.

completed top with no windscreen

pretty cool front shot, almost looks done LOL was thinking about riding it without the bottoms but decided not to

the up and down lines are were the DZUS quarter turn fasteners are going to the "X" needs to be patched and then painted over i think we had had one to many beers this point in time...

ignore the hid lines coming down, ended up putting them up in the fairing.

love how close that thing came to the stock mounting locations, any suggestions on the ducts?? should i cut them or let them stay??

Re: Robers' rebuilt sv

well today was a fun day…
got the lowers on…. ran into a few problems. but both harold and i being engineers (myself Electrical , Harold Mechanical) we were able to over come.
the KG cycles fairing is a great production however modifications have had to be mad. including a new bracket to support the uppers and lowers at the same time, the bracket provided is laid up to frame and support the uppers with a bolt threw them in the fashion, Bolt, Washer, Rubber washer, Fiberglass, Rubbert Washer, Bracket, washer and then nut. Does anyone have any suggestion on F*#^ing Dzus Fasteners, they are a 80 dear waste right now. i hate them not working properly, i am going go and get a washer and rubber washer to take up some slack, anyway hope you enjoy these pics.

i like how this one looks it looks amazing IMHO

Re: Robers' rebuilt sv

wow three months and i have not updated this...
umm we are around the same place that i was before...
the lowers now come on and off with regular shifts
took it for a ride the other day for the first time in 2 months, was good to be back on the road, waiting on the insulating blacket to take care of a heat issue on the exhaust so close to the lowers.

next weekend i will update and include pics!

Re: Robers' rebuilt sv

wow i guess when you arnt working on the project every weekend you loose track of time!!!!!,
so in the last 4 months after i had put the lower fairings on i managed to burn some of the inner fairing, see here for the details of those incidents, i ended up cutting the a hole in the side and then built a cage around it, fiberglas it, and am now ready to paint it !!
Interior burn hole

Interior burn hole

exterior where it had started to come through,

Preparing for surgery,

biggest cut, needed to make a few more mm around it to make the hole i need,

The cage i built from chicken grate, held together with duct tape,

test fitting,

That is a securing wire, those were a pain in the ass to put together, each one is hand wired,

first round of fiberglass

first layer of bondo
