Thought I'd bump it up if anyone needs to do this this winter (*cough* wacky *cough*).
What? I need to do this? Well...maybe. except I'll but the 05 stuff and save a little bit of money... But then again.. if I do it, it's only because I'll have my clutch off to inspect the 8 years of clutch plate use...and to install some Barnett springs.

This is a good candidate for a wiki post! If you don't do it, Orangegilly, I will do it for you. See my sig.

Also, are there other mods that could / should be done at the same time?

Re: Factory Pro Shift Kit install- LONG read w/ lotsa pics

Need some help with my shift kit install. I got the new detent arm and spring in place without too much drama. (I too dropped the washer behind the arm in the oil pan, but fished it right out with the wonderful magnet tool.)

I was very careful to keep everything in the right position and reinstall just the way it was. But, somewhere along the way I failed. When I put the clutch basket back on and tested the shifter, it wouldn't go smoothly into all the gears, I could get them all in by moving the rear wheel slightly, couldn't smoothly snick thru all the gears without moving the wheel. Wasn't even always the same gear that was a problem.

Apparently, I got the gear dogs out of position at some point. Any suggestions? Plan to call Factory Pro hotline tomorrow, but thought I'd toss it up here first.

Re: Factory Pro Shift Kit install- LONG read w/ lotsa pics

Sounds normal.

On lots of bikes you can't just click the shifter through all the gears without turning the rear wheel slightly or having the engine running. Maybe 2 or 3 before it won't shift further, but not 6.

My nearly new busa, my not so new SV and my ghetto old GS have always done this.

Apparently, it is normal. I called Factory Pro and they said you have to move the wheel to get it into all the gears. So, I'm ready to go for a test ride! if only for the fact that is 23 degrees and windy out...

Took the beast out for a spin last weekend and the transmission shifts like butta. This is going to make shifting at M-O this weekend a joy.

Re: Factory Pro Shift Kit install- LONG read w/ lotsa pics

Since this thread zombied, I'd like to share some words of wisdom to help others make sure they do this correctly.

Firstly, it is critical, and very, very easy to get this wrong; but it's critical to ensure the clutch basket aligns with the oil pump gear when you put things back together. Like i said this is really easy to get wrong. If the teeth don't line up perfectly you'll either fail to spin the oil pump and bad things will happen or you'll break the oil pump gear in half and bad things will happen. Even if you are a bit ham-fisted you can crack the oil pump gear and eventually have bad things happen.

Second. Make sure you get final bolt holy-hell tight. If this is even a little bit not tight enough it will eventually loosen up (despite the lock washer that you bend over the nut) and bad things can happen.

Two of these that I've done; one had a oil pump gear break, the other, the Army SV, the final nut worked its way loose, but I was lucky to have found the problem before it caused any trouble.

what is the size of that nut!? I bought a 26mm socket but it doesn't fit! (I would HATE to make a trip to SEARS for a 27mm socket only to find out I need a 28mm one.. haha)
