I agree that rearsets give better shifting than stock controls, at least, mine give better shifting than my rather worn out stockers. Less play in everything.

I haven't had a chance to ride but about 5-6 miles since I finished the kit. Enough to realize it's greatly improved, but not enough to tell anything about the intolerance of bad clutch adjustment. Mine is adjusted dead nuts on the specs in the manual, so I'll keep an eye out for that, Northy.

Dackler - I have woodcrafts with wc pedals, fwiw.

Krooklyn---if you ever bring the bike back to Ohio, I'll help you do it. Got all the tools needed.....now.

And I also have a leaky clutch cover that I need to fix before the rally. Got the hook-up from Zoran on how to fix it, though, so that should be done tomorrow.

Doug - it was a great learning experience, and de-mystified a lot for me.

Re: Factory Pro Shift Kit install- LONG read w/ lotsa pics

i did mine with the new sv parts, and then my motor promptly stopped working. i'm beginning to wonder if i lost one of those little green rubber bands on the #1 clutch friction plate and it made its way into an oil passage for the front cyl.

now i have a new motor, but i have to yank the shift kit out of the old motor and put it into the new motor... VERY CAREFULLY!!!

orangegilly, did you use a gasket on the case? Or just RTV?

Truthfully? Both. Used a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the gasket that came with my kit.

Did this for 2 reasons:

1. the old gasket was really hard to remove, and even a razor blade didn't get it all off

and

2. to help hold the gasket in place when I was lining up the side cover

Still having issues with leaks around the clutch cover, but that'll be fixed in just a few days.

I personally replace all gaskets in what ever area I am working in. I tried not to once, and it did leak oil.

Luckily, there is a shop, not too far from me in NJ, that cuts gasket on site..and an old buddy works there...so he hooks me up whenever I need something.

Re: Factory Pro Shift Kit install- LONG read w/ lotsa pics

You can't not replace that gasket really, it suicides when you remove the casing I had a leak from there, which turned out to be as a result of a tiny, tiny bit of old gasket that I'd somehow missed. It's a sod to clean that thing off. I prefer not to use sealant if I can but I've used it with good results on the outer cover, which suffers from classic SV leak...

Suzuki: There is no problem
Us: So why did you change the design for the second gen?

You left off the most important word:

"Hey Look! A dead bird flying!"
