hey everyone! I'm officially a non sv haver as of today... i sold my sv to my neighbour who operates a wheelie machine. i'm off to the greener pastures in the form of a TL 1000 S! This forum has been so helpful and i enjoy the banter so i'll still be visiting svrider regularly anyway. Gonna try figure out how to put on some pics of the sv on the machine or link some video clips.
To all the dead horse beaters, the sv has had it's front wheel in the air for about 16 hours over the past weekend without any problems. i've told Mitch to join svrider and introduce himself as he has big plans for the sv, including a slipper clutch, rear brake mods, streetfighter cosmetics etc. He's an engineer and has built the wheelie machine himself and i'm sure he's gonna turn the sv into a future sv of the month. will post pics soon.
probably, but he will need a new engine. IF what you say is true (16 hours of wheelie in 2 days) than your friend has a problem. and his bike too. you might not notice it imediately but go search for a new engine on ebay, it's cheaper...
looks like the roller under the back tire could provide resistance to allow the motor to pull the bike up, with a strap attached to the fork to keep you from looping and a sprung platform to soften a forward landing....interesting.
I'd feel a lot more comfortable doing it on a bike with a dry sump oil system.
What makes this machine different to all other wheelie machines is that you can use your own bike on it. All the previous machines i've seen had I4's on them and would be useless for a sv owner to learn on. this guy's had harleys on this machine before.!!!!
It has a compressor built in to change the the rear tyre pressure, cooling fans for the motor and a lcd screen to show the distance of your wheelies.
He's busy developing a machine that can hold two bikes next to each other with two plasma screens in front of them to simulate drag racing. After each "drag race" you would get a printout of your 1/4 mile time, your reaction time, top speed etc.
update: with only the oil pickup being modified slightly to pick up at the rear of the sump, the sv has been in service on it's back wheel for well over two months now without skipping a beat. i'll post pics of what it looks like now soon. The sv isn't very common on my side of the world and a lot of ppl get off it very impressed with the power delivery.
i should have some pics of the TL on the machine somewhere.... i'm doing super long standup wheelies now(on the TL) now because of what i've learnt on the machine. it really helps you get your head around finding the balance point and using the back brake and body positioning in a safe way.
