You got rear ended hard enough to leave an imprint in your tire and the only stuff that got jacked up was on the front end of the bike? (and the shifter.) that's pretty impressive in and of itself.

Sucks that they are trying to total it. Do you know the full list of damage? Maybe you can buy it back from them if they total it and just rebuild it. (I know lots of guys who have done this with cars, since they can find most parts on the cheap they usually make out really well, although it's a salvage title.)

Gonna try and get the full list from the shop tomorrow. I'm assuming there's further damage than my quick, adrenaline fueled, at the scene damage assessment if they're claiming over $5000 to repair it. We'll see.

I just moved from a house where I had a garage and space to rebuild it to an apartment with nothing but street parking so I'd have to get a warehouse space and rebuild it there. I thought about just buying it back and reselling parts too but once again, I'd need to rent space to do that and I'd rather just get back on the road faster since the SV was my daily driver.

Yeah, I see how that would be a necessity. Of course living in an apartment is no excuse, I know a few members on here have done tons of work on their bikes while living in apartments! But you got to have a daily driver, and if they cut you a decent check you SHOULD be able to scoop up another SV to help you get over the loss. Who knows, maybe them totaling it would work out in your favor!
