04 Cam Chain Tensioner upgrade to 05+

My 04 front cam chain is noisy so I've been investigating using automatic cam chain tensioners from an 05+ SV650 that have the updated ratcheting mechanism.
I've checked the parts fiches and found that the cylinders and cam chain guides have the same part numbers so the later tensioner should fit.

Has anyone fitted or investigated installing the later tensioner, if yes, what did you discover ?

Re: 04 Cam Chain Tensioner upgrade to 05+

It's a motorcycle with a cam chain. The engine is not surrounded by fairings. Even with fairings, they are still a little rattley. It's always going to be noisy. New tensioners won't change it.

I built the engine, I know there's an issue with the front tensioner, probably just adjustment, but if I'm going to screw around resetting it and/or removing it and it would be advantageous to update it, I'd like to do that.

Do you know if they're interchangeable ?

The mechanical ones are interchangeable. I don't recall when they went to hydraulic. That won't work.

What issue is there? Did you install it with the ratchet facing up?

The cam chain tensioners mount to the cyl heads, not the cylinders. They are different. The 05 heads have an oil jet that feeds the newer style tensioner. The 04 heads don't have the oil jet. I din't think you can use the newer CCT.

Yeah, that's right. It's been a year since I built it and I just can't remember the CCT installation.

Thanks a lot for the info.

So I have the latest CCT's available for my 04 already ?

The real problem is that I have two SV's, an 02 who's engine is quiet as a mouse, and my newly rebuilt 04 that the front cam chain has a bit of a rattle.
It didn't rattle before the rebuild so I guess I'll check the installation and reset the CCT and then see what it's like.
I was mostly curious if there was an easy upgrade from a later year available.
