I'm looking for the torque values of the oil drain plug, triple clamps, clip-on handlebars, and anything else you can think of. Might be a good sticky. Please post 1st gen or 2nd gen.

I know the top and bottom nuts on the rear shock are 36 ft/lbs and the link/dogbone nuts are 56.5 ft/lbs.
All 2nd Gen

Sorry to resurrect a VERY old thread, but seemed like the right place for this one...

Can anyone confirm the proper torque spec for a gen 2 rear axle nut?

Gen 1 in this thread is listed as 47 lb-ft, and the 03 SV650 service manual seems to conflict with itself stating 72.5 lb-ft in the chart on page 2-32 and 725 lb-ft (WTF? - Assuming the 100nm is correct round to the 72.5 stated previously...) on 2-24 (images of both below).

Can anyone answer definitively?

Is the jump from 47 to 72.5 accurate between the generations?

Do NOT torque the 2nd gen rear axle nut that high, 50-55ft-lbs is plenty. The rear sprocket values are too high too, 25-30ft-lbs is enough.

In general, with rare exceptions like rod and cylinder head bolts you're better off leaving the the torque wrench in the bottom of the tool box.
