Since the below: "I just bought a 2007 ..." - I sold the 07 SV 650S (on July 6, 2011) and immediately bought a 2006 SV 650 (July 8, 2011) with a carbon fiber Yoshimura slip-on exhaust and a Power Commander III USB. I loved the SV 650S - putting on 3,835 miles in the 10 months I had it - but ultimately realized the upright SV 650 was more to my liking. Thankfully the one I bought is in excellent condition with only 4,915 miles on it (amost a wash in year and mileage) - toss in some nice upgrades to include a now even throatier V-Twin note...
I will say the SV 650S (taller gearing/fairing) made a better bike on open highway, freeway, but for overall every day riding I have to give the SV 650 the nod all day long - every day.*
*Plus my girlfriend appreciates not sliding into me all the time.

I just bought a 2007 SV 650S (brand new left over on 9/11/10). I love the feel of this V-Twin. I have been riding since I was a little kid - and street bikes since I was 16 years old. I have pretty much always loved the bikes from the
80's (my youth) from Nighthawks, GPz', FJ's and GS's, Interceptors, among others. I decided to break away from the "norm" and try a different "animal" if you will (a V-Twin). That being said - I am happy I did. I love the "jack-hammer" feel of a V-Twin (this SV 650S) as it delivers its throttle response... Great feeling.
