You might have missed me saying that I lived in Bangkok from Sep 2000 until Dec 2006. While I was there, I had both a CBR400RR and a VFR400R (NC30). I know the place pretty well, and mostly speak the language, so not only do I stay in 5-star hotels with my lodging allowance, but I can feed myself quite well for about $5/day - the allowance for meals and incidental expenses in Bangkok was $56/day last time I was there. It makes a two or three week trip there a fairly profitable venture.

Fortunately for me, when I go there, it's always on business. Not too shabby being there and getting paid for it. I'm supposed to be moving to a new department very soon, and have been told I will become the project manager for something we want to get going over there, so I should be getting at least a few trips in the near future. When I worked there, someone in the embassy had a "tuk-tuk" with diplomatic plates that they used to bomb around on. I doubt they were able to bring it back, though.

That sounds pretty cool. When I lived close to the beach I always wanted an old military jeep and trailer as a beach vehicle. Never happened. I get pics when I go there.

    Exhausted,

I'm not sure why you would want to do that to a bike, but that's your business not mine. First thing you need to know is that it's pronounced "sam-law," and it means, simply enough, three wheels.

Cultural lesson aside, I really don't know much about how they design them except that they can be slightly different depending on where you are.

As luck would have it, I might be going there again in the next couple of months, and if I remember, I will try to snap a few detailed pics of some designs. What would you be doing with it - hauling people, gear, or both?
