Whether you’re out for a cruise on the weekend or making your commute to work, the Alpinestars SMX-1 boots are ready to help you comfortably cover some miles. This low profile boot combines a low key style with protective elements from full size boots, and it is all done with Alpinestars quality.

The protection comes from armor that is found in the form hard plastic protectors around the heels and foam-backed guards on the lateral side of each upper portion. Perforations exist on the sides and front of each boot, which, when combined with the 3D mesh inner liner, help your feet breathe. A racing-inspired outsole has its innards topped by an EVA foam footbed that’s profiled with a gentle arch in it so the foot stays planted. Plus, the inner line/footbed combination will quickly mold itself to your foot after a short time. The boots are, after all, comfort-made and purposefully protective.

Hey Guys,

I've looked at other threads similar to this and figured it would be easier to create a thread as every situation seems to have a different resolution.

Anyway, I have a 2001 Sv650, i bought it last year and it runs great in low RPM's, but when i go above 7k in any gear(mostly 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) it cuts out and sputters and then runs fine.

It feels like it loses a cylinder so i pulled the front plug and did the whole dielectric grease on the plug wire, blew out the drain hole, etc. Also noticed the breather hoses werent hooked up to the little box next to the airbox so hooked those up too. Took it out for a ride and it cut out one time then ran amazing all the way up until 10k(probably put 35 miiles on it making sure to go above 7k in every gear)

Go out the next day and it cuts out once and runs fine again, but the problem seems to be coming back again and cutting out more often.

I think the bike sat for a while before the guy i bought it from got in in running condition, i havent had a chance to pull the tank and check for any rust in it or clean the carbs(which im thinking could be a big part of it)

The plugs were just put in last season and i put dry gas in as well to see if that helps, it helped for a little and then came back again. I've gotten stuck in the rain a few times and it cuts out way more often then and the next few rides after that, but the drain hole/plug wire dealie should have taken care of that.

The bike has 10.5k miles on it, bought it with 5200. Havent tested any electrical items other than what i listed. I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas it could be. Im going to try Sunday to clean the tank out completely, clean the carbs and resync them.

Another thing to note, the bike does have a full exhaust, i asked when i bought it if the bike was jetted appropriately for the exhaust and he assured me it was, could a jetting issue cause an abrupt power loss like that? Is there a way to check the correct jetting?

Thanks in advance guys, thats all i can think of, hopefully im not missing anything.

I bought a 2004 SVS about a month ago, and one of the problems with it was that the speedo wasn’t working.

At first it was just at 0 all the time, but after a couple days, it started reading 0, or ~double the speed.

After reading about it some, it looked like the most likely cause is a bad speedo magnet, so I went to the local parts store, and ordered one. Swapped it out this past weekend – the old one looked fine. I didn’t see any cracked or broken pieces. It looked just like the new one I had in the bag. I swapped it out anyways, and the speedo worked great!

Until this morning. It’s been about 200 miles since the fix. I know for a fact that it was working fine when I got home and parked it in the garage yesterday.

What it’s doing now, is.. different than before.

It seems to read low speed ok, up until about 58~60 mph, and then anything above that, it goes to 0.

I double checked the bolt / axle when I got to work, and everything is as it should be, nice and snug.

Any suggestions?

So I am looking to replace my 2000 SV650s with a new bike.

I do not want a 4-cylinder because they lack character. I do not want a naked bike because I do a decent amount of highway riding and I like to hide behind the fairing when it gets too windy.

So the options are:
Ducati 848 - Supersport ergos... even my 2000 SVS is uncomfortable.
Suzuki SV650s (2009+, in canada) - Not really an upgrade I guess
Ninja 650 - Inferior to the SV in most meaningful ways.

Anyway, were I to get a NEW SV650s (still sold in Canada) what can I realistically expect to be different from a riding perspective?

Also if anyone can think of other options, please post them. Also, if you ride naked on the highway I would like to know your experiences too.

I inherited a 2005 SV with less than 200 miles (yeap you read it right!). The bike was only ridden a few times and then parked. I am trying to start it and it wont fire. I added fresh fuel, new battery, oil and air filter. It turns over but wont fire. I ran the "do it yourself" home diagnostic and it reads c-00 indicating nothing is wrong, but the oil light is on (even thou is full). Any tips on what else I can check? I havent pulled the plugs because being a near new bike with less than 200 miles, I would assume they are good. Also, how many seconds should the fuel pump prime for when flipping the red switch?

Best regards!

I thought I bled the brakes good enough I might not have. I have PainfullySlow's adjustable shorty levers and with them on the middle setting (3) and the lever travels approx. 1 - 1.5 inches before the brakes actually start engaging. Is this normal with new caliper pistons or did I just not bleed them good enough? When the brakes do engage however they do a damn fine job of stopping the bike. Any input?

This weekend is my first trackday of this year. Went down on the last trackday mid last year and have been putting her back together since. My last issue is a bit of a weird one ..

The Problem:

hen I spin the rear tire on stands, it seems to have more drag to it than my street SV.

My Elimination Process:

First I attributed it to brake drags, and proceeded to test by removing the rear brakes. Same drag.

Then I thought maybe its the friction in the chain and /or axle from dirt getting in when I low sided. Okay, clean and lubed chain, then took the axle out, cleaned it up with degreaser, then re applied a nice new coat of grease. Did the same to the two spacers on each side of the wheel. Put everything back together, same drag.

Then I though maybe the chain needs to get warmed up for the new lube to coat, so I started her up, and put her into gear ( on rear stand ). Played with the gear up / down a bit, and then realized that even in first or second gear, with clutch out, she doesn't die. Strange!?

I'm thinking this has something to do with the initial issue with wheel drags. Maybe my clutch is always partially engaged ?

A bit worried about this because I'm not sure if this could cause a potentially dangerous situation.

Has anyone had this same issue ?
