: Dealer Mode Tool

After watching me set the TPS on my '05 last spring, my father decided to get me the proper 'Dealer Mode Tool' (#09930-82720) from Suzuki, as a Christmas "stocking stuffer".

I am planning to do some work to the bike tonight (mount my GoPro camera, etc.), and remembered I have the "tool" in my parts bin. The tool itself plugs directly into the diagnostic plug on the SV, and has a switch to turn it on and off.

Is there any problem with leaving the switch installed to make roadside diagnostics easier?

Does anyone have a list of "fault codes" for a 2005 SV?

It would be nice to have along in the tool pouch in case anything ever happens far from help!

Darryl

Maybe water could get in there with the tool installed? That is a bit of a stretch though. The stock little rubber cover doesn't really do much anyway. I mean, it has an on/off switch. With it turned off, its like it is not even there. I say go for it, if it gives you piece of mind.

All the fault codes and relevant diagnostic procedures can be found in the service manual. Just print the pages you want and store them.

My GIpro DS gear indicator is hooked up to the diagnostic connector so I would imagine that leaving the switch installed would be okay.

Thanks guys, now I have someone to blame if something goes bad later, ;D.

Hopefully, I can hold out on a Gear Indicator, or else I may have to change my mind.

LOL......no, the wire was what I had always been perfectly satisfied with using before.

That said, the factory item is kinda handy. Besides plugging directly into the factory connector, it stays in place, and has a switch to turn it on and off, so all I have to do is lift the seat and flip a switch to activate diagnostic mode.

The part number is #09930-82720 from Suzuki, and I think it was about $25 from the dealership. Many dealers may not be anxious to order it in, as they might want to protect their interests, not sure though.

Looks like Oneida Suzuki has it. $11.50.

why does the gipro hook into the diagnostic plug?

also, i dont think they are charging too much for this unit. the plug alone is $7.95 cheapest i can find. then you have to buy a switch and wire as well as braiding...

I actually guessed at the $25.

At $10 I would call it a bargain compared to the one I made myself before, not in price, but in ease of use.

I dunno, I guess all the DS model needs is the gear indicator.

That DS new model - had not seen that before - about same price & no TRE though.
Not sure the great advanatge - simpler to install & smaller display/module I guess.
I'll keep the cmbo TRE unit thanks.
